Rouba's Secret

English

Victoria, you think you're so special don't you?
Well, I too have a secret, and mine too involves underwear.

But not just any underwear, underwear with a Purpose.

Earlier today, I received a top secret email:

I'm not supposed to say anything, a secret's a secret.

I won't spill the beans but I'll give you a hint: Bras for a Cause has shared with its ambassadors the names of three of the many top fashion designers participating in this fabulous event. And I say fabulous because there will be some outstanding designs! I had great expectations before but now I am 100% certain Bras for a Cause will wow!

Now I know you're just dying to know who's joining the Cause.
But hey! It's a secret, ok? So stop pushing, my lips are sealed.
...
Alright, alright, but just because it's you and you know how much I love you:

Can't wait for Bras for a Cause to reveal the other renowned designers participating as well!

Inspired? Good, then join the Glamorous and the Fabulous and don't miss your chance to be part of these outstanding talents' team: the Bras for a Cause squad.

See you there! ;)

I have to wonder...

English ✮ Français

WHY, OH WHY?

As I was Googling the world "Hello" for a cute image; I get this... This... Well I don't really know what that is. But I can't help but wonder why....

Hello Kitty was disturbing enough to me before.
But now, this gives a whole new dimension to the word "disturbing".

bRaVOLUTION for the BRAve!

English

No, I don't ever get bored of playing on words.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let's proceed with the business at hand.

Bras for a Cause are revealing all!

The five competition categories look amazing! It's going to be interesting not only to see how professional fashion designers and stylists interact with the subject but also how first-timers and people from all walks of life bring their visions to a usually very restricted industry: underwear fashion.

The categories are, as per Bras for a Cause's posts on Facebook:
The "Designer Piece" Bra Category This category is open for established regional designers.

The "Her Bra" Design Category This category is open for all designers interested in designing a bra specifically with the breast cancer survivor in mind. We're lacking pretty, sexy and comfortable options for such specialty bras in the Middle East, so taking part in this category is much-needed!
The "Everybody Wants Me" Design CategoryThis category is also open for all designers to design the most creative bra for all women in general. Think outside the box and starting thinking about creative designs that will make all women who see it say "I gotta have this bra!"
The "Training Bra" Category
This category is open for any emerging fashion designer, students and/or anyone with an interest in designing a bra but not yet a professional. A design background is not required for entries for this category and is open for the public at large.
The "Such a Tee-s" T-Shirt Design CategoryThis category is open for graphic designers, illustrators, and basically anyone who'd like to design a T-shirt dedicated to this cause. Could be a catchy message supporting the cause, bra illustrations or any other creative design on a T-shirt relating to breast cancer awareness.

I personally will attempt at creating one or two t-shirts as the format fits my personality and "design" style (if I may be so bold) a bit more.

A BRA for the BRAve!

I can't wait to see what participants will submit in the category "Her Bra" which carries far more than just the fun of a competition. Of course, just like for the other categories, creativity should be key and I'm sure many will dazzle! But more importantly, it's the little "something" it will bring to these women's lives that matters the most.

Cancer patients are the bravest people I've had the privilege to meet. I've met many. I've lost some; a dear one just six months ago and another one at Easter only a few weeks ago.

All of them have the same courage, the same fire, the same fighting spirit!

They understand life. What it means. The value of being here just one more day.

They truly humble me.
They truly humble us all.

That is why I try to grab any opportunity that comes my way to spread awareness, support or just say a word or two.

That's the least I can do. There's so much more I should do, I know. But with all the silly tiny things that take over our daily lives, I am grateful to events such as Bras for a Cause that help us remember to take a few minutes away from our busy schedules and think.

Just like that, with a simple gesture such as writing a few words or drawing on a t-shirt to bring a little bit more light on an important cause, act and have fun all at once.

So pick up a pen, a piece of paper, a napkin, anything!... And start sketching! ;)

Fight the good fights!

English

I was starting to freak out a little bit but things are back to normal now.

I visited my blog earlier and discovered the last article I had posted about Bras for a Cause had completely disappeared. It was nowhere to be found! Not in my drafts. Not in my posted messages. Nowhere.

Thank God for Google! I found out Blogger experienced some technical issues which led to posts being removed from some blogs. Everything is to be restored in the next few hours. And before I completely lost it, I rejoiced at the sight of a lot to BRAg about! back where it belongs :)

So apologies for all of this :)

I wanted to drop a line today to remind everyone of the Lebanese Laïque Pride happening this Sunday!
Lebanon! Be there!
We're all counting on you!

Also, Bras for a Cause is revealing every day a new category in their competition so make sure to check their page regularly for updates. And start having fun with your designs!

a lot to BRAg about!

English

It's really not polite to BRAg.

But let's face it, social media is buzzing all around the Middle East lately and we can't help but feel just a little bit prouder of our online community these days.

There is one very cool reason in particular.

Fustany and One Wig Stand are partnering to bring us one of the most creative and fun event of the year: BRAS for a Cause.

Apologies to the logo designer & organizers
but I just couldn't help the play on words

One Wig Stand is one of the most inspired cancer awareness campaigns launched on the web. It's helped break the silence and taboo haunting women suffering from a disease that not only damages their health dramatically but also quietly hits at the very heart of their femininity.
Like them on

Fustany is the leading portal for fashionistas in the Middle East: the funkiest one-stop-shop there is to discover fashion designers, boutiques, daily news, events, giveaways and the latest trends.
Find them on

An impressive team for a worthy cause!

The best news is: they're recruiting! Well kind of...

There is an amazing competition coming up: the very first BRA DESIGN contest in the Middle East and it's starting in a week, on May 19, 2011.

So what's left to do?
Simply join them!

Yes, your eyes are not cheating you: JOIN THEM! You don't even need to be a stylist or a designer. The tiniest bit of imagination will do the trick!

Lebanese Laïque Pride 2011

English

On May 15, 2011 the Lebanese secular community is marching once again to demand their most basic right: a united nation ruled by unified civil laws, rights and duties that apply equally to all Lebanese citizens.

In a country like Lebanon, where differences seem larger than commonalities, where divisions seem easier than unity, where sectarian groups have at the very least one, sometimes more political parties (taking into account this tiny nation has officially acknowledged more religious and sectarian groups than an entire continent!) the concept of a unit gathering Lebanese citizens from all walks of life seems as improbable as  guilt-free chocolate (let's face it, sugar-free just isn't the same).

And yet, this group has managed to stay away from politicians' claws and remain true to their values and ethics.

No politicians. No political parties. No sectarian groups. No affiliation whatsoever.

It's very simple; on May 15, all Lebanese will just be one thing:
Lebanese.
Nothing else.

2011 will witness the second Lebanese Laïque* Pride.
*Laïque means "secular" in French

Looking back at last year's gathering and 2011's potential, it's hard to believe it all started with a simple debate on Facebook. What might have ended with a few posts between friends quickly snowballed into a massive event, mostly powered by social media and the will of those who have had enough with obsolete politicians and politics ruling their lives.

My parents' generation had been fighting for that same right for ages; fighting for a better Lebanon for them, and for us.

On May 15 we'll be marching side by side my parents and I.

My dad will proudly be carrying my five months old daughter Mia on his shoulders on that day. She can't march but she'll be there anyway, alongside her parents and grand-parents. For Lebanon. For herself. And for what this event represents to her generation and the future of her country.

And hopefully, this will be the last time she has to march for such a basic right.

See you there, Lebanon!

Time: Sunday, May 15 · 3:00pm - 4:30pm
Location: From Aïn Mraïssé to Riad El-Solh - Beirut , LEBANON

For more details on the march in Lebanon and in other countries, check FacebookTwitter or subscribe to the Laïque Pride mail list.

Since this year, everything is a first, Mia's getting the royal treatment.

You now know she's had her cutie little footprint engraved on a silver heart.
But that was not all she got personalized.

For her first Easter, she also received custom hand-made wooden boxes designed by one of my most talented friends: Dyala Khodary. And as if this was not royal enough,  these boxes were filled with the tastiest Easter eggs home-made with love and the most delicious chocolate you'll ever find: Chocolat Fée by Dyala's choxpert twin sister, Hala Khodary. A killer combo!

You'll lick your fingers.... and don't worry about thanking me later but if you insist, don't bother writing; just send a box of Chocolat Fée my way and we'll be even! ;)
